Gambling Could Be Allowed in Japan

According to the Mainichi Daily News, the Japanese government is considering a proposal to legalize casinos, following Singapore's recent decision to allow casinos.

Asia -- The Fasting Growing Casino Market

This article in the Taiwan News about the growth of the casino industry in Asia is worth a quick read -- here are some fascinating statistics about Asia reported in the article:

  • Asia is home to the fastest growing casino market;
  • Revenues from Asia's licensed casinos may grow 20% to $13 billion (USD) this year;
  • Illegal casinos are estimated to have revenues in the range of $100 billion (USD) annually; and
  • Asia's growing wealth is creating a new pool of big players likely ready and willing to gamble.

Crackdown in China

The Mainichi Daily News is reporting that the Chinese government is calling on local agencies to closely monitor Chinese internet sites to locate online gaming sites or links to such sites (among other sites). Any sites providing gambling or links to gambling sites will be warned and given 24 hours to remove gambling content.
